BANK staff at the HSBC branch in Eastgate Street had to turn customers away yesterday afternoon after a technical problem with the alarm.
Staff greeted customers outside the main door to tell them they could use cash machines in the lobby area but the rest of the branch was closed due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
An HSBC spokesman said yesterday: “We have got somebody working on the alarm meaning customers can’t use the counter service. Staff have been helping customers use the express machines.”
He expected the bank to be open for business again at the start of today (Thursday).
