BEETHOVEN could be helping children to boost their brainpower at a Runcorn school.
Murdishaw West Primary’s Year 4 have been learning to play the violin from a professional musician since October and are now gaining enough to confidence to consider playing in front of an audience.
Now her second year teaching violin at the school, Angela Perkins of Halton And Warrington began teaching the current class in September.
School staff said research has linked playing the violin to improve their reading skills, confidence, discipline and listening ability.
Eva Long, Murdishaw West secretary Eva Long was so impressed with the young Tchaikovskys’ progress that she sent a warning to the music industry. She said: “The pupils are enthusiastic and keen to improve their skills. They can now play a scale and are learning to read music. This may not sound like much but believe me it really is.
“Violin lessons give our children an insight into an unfamiliar genre of music and show that the instrument holds its place not only in classical but also in modern music.
“So look out Simon Cowell, Murdishaw West is coming!”
