Round the clock watch on peregrine falcon chicks

17:14, Jun 3 2009

by Dave Fox, Crewe Chronicle

THREE endangered peregrine falcon chicks nesting at Beeston Castle have been tagged by experts.

Cheshire Constabulary’s wildlife and rural crime officer, Martin Findlow has helped re-introduce the castle’s Peregrine Watch following last year’s theft of three chicks by criminals from Liverpool.

Residents and birdwatchers led by Bernard Wright, from Broxton Barn Owl Trust, were so outraged at the crime, and similar ones in the past, they called on Mr Findlow to kick-start the watch.

The protection scheme now has more than 100 volunteers who take turns to carry out 24-hour watches of the nest high up on Beeston Crag.
