Schoolboys arrested on suspicion of arson attack at Sandbach School

TWO schoolboys have been questioned by police in connection with a suspected arson attack at Sandbach School yesterday (Wednesday, January 18). The 14-year-olds from Crewe, who are believed to be pupils, were arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire in the toilets of the Crewe Road school’s design and technology block at around 3.25pm. One was released on police bail pending further enquiries. The other was released without charge. Two fire crews from Crewe and Sandbach tackled the blaze at the all-boys school and investigators concluded the fire was started deliberately. A school spokeswoman said: “There was a minor fire in the toilets of the design and technology block at around 3.25pm on Wednesday afternoon after the majority of the pupils had left the school site. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT “The fire alarm was sounded, buildings were evacuated and the fire brigade attended the fire within 15 minutes. “The fire was extinguished quickly and was contained to the toilets. “Damage has been confined to the toilets and the rest of the building has not been impacted. “Fire brigade and police officers have assured the school that the building is safe for immediate occupation.”
