'I only feel hate for my attacker'

Apr 13 2007

Exclusive By Richard Fletcher, Chester Chronicle

A RECOVERING sex-attack victim has spoken out about her hatred for the man who assaulted her at work.

Natasha Jones, 19, gave up her legal right to anonymity so she could express her continuing fear of her tormentor.

She asks friends not to leave her alone and has difficulty answering the door since Abid Hussain touched her at a women's clothing store in Chester.

The Chester teenager, who returned to Liverpool University to study zoology shortly after the attack, said: 'I only have hatred for the man. I'm really disgusted at him as a person and his behaviour.

'Automatically I thought 'I'm going to forget about it' but when I was in Liverpool it hit home. Two Asian men knocked on our door and I ran to my room and panicked.

'I still felt violated - I wanted him in prison.'

She even made her hair look different because she feared he would come back while on bail.

Hussain, 27, who was staying in Birmingham on a visa from Pakistan, entered the shop and touched her bottom before squeezing it and touching her breast. When she went to get help he followed her into the changing rooms before staff intervened.

Hussain changed his plea to guilty of touching a female on December 27 last year. He was jailed for 19 weeks by Chester magistrates on March 29, and placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.

Natasha said: 'Compared to rape it's not something that big, but it's a step towards it and I bet he thought he could get away with it. If they're out there ready to do it to someone else you'd never forgive yourself.

'I hope these effects will go because I need to be chilled out. But I'm not sure.'

Mum Carole, who works at the same shop, said: 'I still can't figure out why I didn't do what I thought I would do and kick the s*** out of him. When someone has violated you in your own surroundings all the trust is gone.'
