CHESHIRE firefighters are warning residents to take care using cookers after they were called out to a kitchen blaze today (Tuesday).
Crews attended the property in Brook Lane at about 1.30pm to tackle the fire which was caused after a tea towel which had been left on the cooker, caught alight.
Although the property’s smoke alarms were working and did activate but the fire service are advising people to avoid leaving children in the kitchen alone when cooking on the hob. A Chester watch manager said:
“Keep matches and saucepan handles out of their reach to keep them safe and make sure saucepan handles don't stick out - so they don't get knocked off the stove.
“Take care if you're wearing loose clothing - they can easily catch fire.
“Keep tea towels and cloths away from the cooker and hob. Double check the cooker is off when you've finished cooking and take care if you need to leave the kitchen whilst cooking, take pans off the heat or turn them down to avoid risk.”
