Borough’s T-Mobile phone mast appeals

09:46, Feb 15 2008

by Michael Green, Ellesmere Port Pioneer

A DECISION by the borough council to refuse permission for a 12- metre mobile phone mast has led to an appeal.

The application was put forward by T-Mobile on land at the rear of Town Lane Autos at 9A Town Lane, Little Neston.

The telegraph pole-style mast with three ground- based equipment cabinets would have a serious impact on local amenity, the council believed.

Planning officers felt that, due to its height, proximity to residential property and general appearance, it would be unduly dominant.

The plans were rejected and T-Mobile has turned to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears, who is to appoint an inspector to decide the application on the basis of written representations.

Meanwhile, a decision is awaited in an appeal involving plans for a mobile phone mast on a busy main road.

T-Mobile put in the challenge when their plans for a 12m high mast on land at the junction of Chester Road and Ascot Drive in Great Sutton were rejected.

The borough council decided that given the openness of the grass verge along the busy road and the removal of a hedgerow, the siting and appearance of the installation would be unduly prominent.
