A FAMILY man from Broxton died instantly after falling from his horse while riding with the Cheshire Hunt.

Brewery chairman Richard Gilchrist, a 57-year-old father of two, is though to have broken his neck after his horse tripped jumping a hedge in Hetherson Green near Malpas on Saturday.

Cheshire Hunt secretary Simon Ashworth, a family friend, said: “Ricky’s life evolved around hunting, his whole family hunted as a group. He will be missed by everyone.”

Mr Gilchrist was married to Catherine and had two young daughters Lucy and Annabel. He was chairman of the Warrington-based Burtonwood Brewery and Oxfordshire’s Hook Norton Brewery.

Hunt chairman Pauline Barlow said Mr Gilchrist had served in various voluntary roles within the organisation - and would be sadly missed.

A Hook Norton spokesperson said: “Richard had been a director since 1977 and was appointed chairman in 2005.

“The company extends its deepest sympathy to his wife Catherine, two daughters and all the family.”

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at noon that a man had fallen off his horse.

“An ambulance, a community search responder and a rapid response vehicle attended but nothing could be done to save him.”
