TIME is running out for Widnes schools to get in touch with a travel agency in the hope of receiving solar panels worth £20,000.
Staff at Co-operative Travel are making a final appeal for Widnes schools to be nominated as part of the Co-operative’s Green Energy for Schools scheme.
The company has already spent £1m installing solar panels at 100 schools in the UK during the past year.
And it has now earmarked a further £1m for the scheme to provide solar panels for a further 60 schools.
The remaining cash will be used for school pilot schemes involving wind turbines, biomass boilers and ground source heat pumps.
Claire Murray, branch manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for local schools to benefit from this exciting programme. Each solar system generates more than 3,400 kWh of electricity each year - enough to power a school computer for 33,000 hours - saving around two tonnes of carbon dioxide.
“It would be wonderful if a Widnes school could be the latest to benefit from this initiative.”
Nominations can be made through Co-operative Travel, 29-33 Albert Road, Widnes, WA8 6JA or by contacting the branch on 0151 424 3747 deadline is November 5.
