Catherine Gowing murder: Police make fresh appeal for information

14:39, Oct 24 2012

by Lois York, Flintshire Chronicle

DETECTIVE investigating the murder of missing Flintshire vet Catherine Gowing say it is ‘imperative’ they build up a full picture of the movements of two vehicles.

North Wales Police are anxious to trace the movements of both Catherine’s Burgundy Renault Clio, with Irish registration Plates 00D 99970, which was found burnt out at a quarry off Pinfold Lane, Alltami, on Thursday, and a black Volvo S40 car, registration number AG58 JHE, belonging to murder suspect Clive Sharp, 46, of Bethesda in Gwynedd.

Vet Catherine, of Cae Isa, New Brighton, near Mold, has not been seen since 8.40pm on Friday, October 12, when she was captured on CCTV leaving Asda in Queensferry.

Police say the search for her body is focussed in and around the quarry and adjacent pools and woodland.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Mark Pierce of North Wales Police said: “It is imperative that we build up as full a picture as possible of the movements of Catherine’s Renault, and the suspects Volvo since Friday, October 12. I would urge anyone who can help us with any information about either the Renault or Volvo or Clive Sharp to contact us immediately.

“Our focus however remains on finding Catherine and reuniting her with her family.

“Specialist search teams continue to carry out methodical searches of the woodland.

“We are currently deploying four search teams from North Wales Police and our colleagues in Cheshire Police are supporting us with two of their own.

“National search team advisors are assisting us to prioritise the areas to search and the specialists to use. These resources include the Regional Underwater Search Team and specialist dogs. Our search strategy and methodology is constantly being reviewed taking into account all the information received from members of the public and our own investigations.

“Whilst there are active lines of enquiry to pursue, the search will continue and that is why it is absolutely vital that if anyone has any information, no matter how small they share it with police immediately.”

Speaking through their family liaison officer Catherine’s sister Emma and brother-in-law Shay Maguire added: “We want to thank the public of North Wales for their wonderful support in our search for Catherine which continues.”

Anyone with information is asked to call North Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
