POLICE are investigating after a young man from Chester died when his van was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry.
Alex Chard, 21, was travelling along the A50 near Castle Donington in Leicestershire yesterday (Thursday) morning when the fatal incident happened at about 9.25am on the southbound carriageway at the exit slip road of junction one.
Alex, who works for Malpas-based company Barlows Electrical, was driving a white Vauxhall Vivaro van when he was involved in a collision with a yellow articulated lorry.
The former pupil of St David’s High School in Saltney was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers from Leicestershire Police’s serious collision investigation unit are appealing for witnesses.
Detective Constable Nick Bryan, who is investigating the accident, said: “Both of the vehicles were travelling on the southbound carriageway when the incident happened.
“I would appeal to anyone who was driving on the A50 when the incident happened and saw either of these two vehicles in the moments leading up to the incident. The information you have could help with our enquiries.”
Formal identification of the deceased has not yet taken place.
