Chester Zoo launches weekly free guided tours called Walkabout Wednesdays

CHESTER Zoo is starting a new series of weekly free guided tours known as Walkabout Wednesdays on February 24.
A series of five walks focusing on Looking after the Big and Beautiful will run every Wednesday including February 24, March 3, March 10, March 17 and March 24.
The tour will answer questions such as how to trim an elephant’s toenails, what is the secret of the arowana, why do keepers pretend to be a female condor and where do the zoo’s butterflies come from?
The free guided tour will take visitors around some of the zoo’s animal enclosures, and one of its knowledgeable and friendly presenters will explain how the zoo looks after its animals, and answer any animal questions.
Members of the public taking part can see the tools of the keeper’s trade, have a look, and maybe a feel, of some animal artefacts, and even get up close and personal with caterpillars and chrysalises in the Butterfly Journey.
Each tour will depart from inside Elephants of the Asian Forest and finish up at the butterflies 45 minutes later. The tours are very informal, and visitors can come along for as much or as little as they like.
Tours start at 11am and 2.30pm. Places on each tour are limited to 35.
