HELP is at hand for film buffs in the form of a plan to make Middlewich the only town in the area with a cinema.
Northwich's Regal Cinema - Mid Cheshire's only film venue - is set to close for the last time on December 31, but the Middlewich Community Association (MCA) is preparing to step into the breach with its own film club at the town's community centre in Civic Way.
MCA secretary Reg Jackson said: 'The impending closure of the Regal has certainly spurred us on a little, and we are hoping to ensure we can run the first Middlewich film club night in January.'
The MCA received a grant of £6,600 to buy cinema equipment.
In the next few weeks, it will buy kit including a 14ft by 7ft screen and projector and Reg said: 'There is a designated film list which we'll be signing up for, then we can take the list to local schools and work out what to show first.
'We will be able to pick from pre-cinema release and films out for three to six months. It looks like it will cost us between £60-£80 per film we show, so we might need to charge about £2 or £3.'
