16:11, Aug 30 2012

by Ellie Cullen, Crewe Chronicle

AN ELDERLY man was rescued from a blazing house on Underwood Lane in Crewe.

Three crews of firefighters were called to the terraced house at about 3pm today (Thursday) and discovered a fire in the living room.

They pulled the man to safety before two breathing apparatus wearers used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

A covering jet was also put in place and a large industrial fan was used to clear smoke from the premises.

The gas and electricity were isolated and four breathing apparatus wearers searched the property.

The elderly man was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Police closed part of Underwood Lane while firefighters remained on the scene.

Investigations are still ongoing as to the cause of the fire.
