Event at Whitby Hall in Ellesmere Port to encourage foster carers to look after siblings

A DRIVE to keep fostered siblings together is coming to Whitby Hall.

Due to the shortage of foster carers able to look after more than one child, siblings often have to be accommodated separately.

This can have a huge emotional impact on children so Cheshire West and Chester Council is highlighting the need to recruit more foster carers for brothers and sisters at an information evening on Thursday, July 12.

Anyone interested in fostering is invited to the Orchard Suites in Whitby from 6-8pm to find out more about what is involved, whether they are considering fostering one child or siblings.

Lesley, who fosters sibling groups, said: “Family ties are so important and for children who have already been parted from their parents and home it is vital that they’re able to maintain the bond with their siblings.

“We knew looking after more than one child would be hard work but we really feel it’s been worth it.”

The council want to hear from anyone who may be able to look after siblings, whether you are married or single, own your home or are renting, are unemployed or work full-time.

What is most important is that you’re committed, realistic and have a positive approach – and that you have space in your home and life for more than one child.

In return there is plenty of support and training on offer, as well as an allowance to cover the costs of caring for a child, and fees to reflect your skills and experience.

Anyone wishing to attend the information evening is asked to register their interest in advance, if time allows, on 01244 972222.
