Fire at historic Nantwich town centre pub

11:48, Feb 22 2013

by Will Harris, Crewe Chronicle

A MAJOR Nantwich town centre street was shut off as firefighters tackled a fire at a popular pub.

The blaze broke out at the Red Cow pub in Beam Street shortly after 10am this morning (Thursday).

Crews from Nantwich and Crewe rushed to the scene to tackle the fire, while police cordoned off the area to the public and shut off the road.

It has since re-opened, while utility companies had also been present to isolate the electrics and gas supply.

The Chronicle understands the fire started in the cleaning cupboard and broke out to the rest of the ground floor of the historic inn.

Crews have been using a large fan to clear the building of smoke-logging.

The Red Cow is a 15th century Grade I-listed, traditional beamed pub, and was once a farmhouse.
