CHESTER'S MP has sought reassurances at Westminster that new laws will not assist developers hoping to convert a city cinema into a nightclub.
Christine Russell asked Secretary of State for Communities, Ruth Kelly, about the potential impact of the Planning White Paper on listed buildings, amid concerns about the Grade II-listed Odeon cinema.
The Odeon is to close on June 14.
In a debate in the House of Commons Mrs Russell said: 'I must ask the Secretary of State for reassurance that nothing in the White Paper will undermine the protection and safeguards that we give to important listed buildings.'
Ms Kelly said: 'I can give my honourable friend that assur ance.'
