TWO Widnes men have been arrested on suspicion of growing cannabis as part of a major probe into organised crime.
Police swooped on the 60-year-old and 49-year-old yesterday as the North West Regional Organised Unit – Titan – rounded up 17 suspects around Merseyside, Lancashire and Manchester.
The older Widnes man is also accused of conspiring to conceal criminal property.
In total, police arrested 11 men and six women on suspicion of drugs, firearms and money laundering offences.
Detectives are questioning them at police station.
Officers from Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire and Greater Manchester worked alongside Titan on the investigation.
A Cheshire police spokeswoman said officers seized a quantity of what it believed to be Class A drugs together with a drugs press, a number of rounds of ammunition, a large quantity of cash and jewellery, high value vehicles and computers.
She said police discovered ammunition and explosives officers defused a smoke cannister to make it safe.
Detective Superintendent Jason Hudson from Titan said: “This operation demonstrates the ongoing commitment and dedication of Titan in tackling serious and organised crime across the North West.
“We appeal to anyone with any information relating to serious and organised crime in their area to contact police so we can take rigorous action against them.”
Anyone with any information can call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
