A notice posted on the shop's glass door reads: "One of the very few people in the world who has combined the secrets and powers of: palmistry, phrenology, tarot, clairvoyance. To give you a better reading and service."
The full charge against Mr Mohammed reads: "As an Indian palmist you made false statements as to the provision of service, ie: to perform a paranormal phenomena guaranteeing to restore the emotional and physical relationship between the complainant and her ex-boyfriend."
Four ancient ways of interpreting life and predicting the future
PALMISTRY: A method of interpreting the shape of the hand and the lines of the palm to project the character, and possible life experiences, of an individual.
The Greek physicians Hippocrates and Galen were both said to be knowledgeable about the laws and practise of palmistry as a clinical aid, while Julius Caesar is said to have judged his men by their hands.
PHRENOLOGY: A theory that claims to determine people's personality traits through the shape of their heads - otherwise known as reading bumps. Developed by German physician Franz Joseph Gall around 1800, phrenology became extremely popular in the 19th century.
TAROT: An interest in predicting events through symbols dating back to ancient Egypt, and may have travelled to Europe from the Middle East during the time of the Crusades in the 12th century.
Tarot cards are a popular way of discovering how the past, present and future work together.
CLAIRVOYANCE: Paranormal ability to obtain information about an object or event without the use of the known senses. In general usage the term is used to refer to what are described as psychic gifts, such as telepathy, mediumship, second sight prophetic visions, and psychic dreams.
Clairvoyance literally means "clear seeing", so it is often used to refer to visionary psychic experiences.
