MOTORISTS in Widnes have been warned that they could be burgled if they leave their cars to defrost unattended.
Sergeant Kev Philips said drivers can have to change the locks on their homes as well as higher insurance premiums if their car is stolen because the keys were left in the ignition.
Sgt Philips’s warning came as Cheshire police launched a scheme to drive home the message to motorists that they should avoid becoming easy prey for crooks.
Officers have been patrolling hotspots telling drivers not to leave their vehicles unattended and not to leave valuables on display in their vehicles.
A Cheshire police spokeswoman said handbags, mobile phones and laptops are the kinds of typical goods that crooks target. She said it takes minutes for thieves to steal a vehicle.
