A FAMILY had a lucky escape after one of the children used fire training learned in school to help get their relatives out of a house blaze unharmed.
Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service discovered the mum and three children outside their Eton Road home in Wolverham, Ellesmere Port, after alerted just after 1am this morning following a chip pan blaze.
The family was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution in case of possible smoke inhalation. The smoke alarm had sounded.
Fire service spokeswoman Sarah Dornford-May said: “One of the children had key stage two fire training in school and knew what to do and got the other children out.”
The quick-thinking parent had shut the kitchen door meaning the blaze was confined to that room. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using a hose reel jet ad dry powder extinguisher. Covering jets were used to keep the area cool. A powerful fan was used to clear the smoke.
