THE son of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings star Paddy Doherty has admitted causing the death of an Elton man by careless driving.

David Michael Doherty’s plea was accepted by the prosecution and a charge of causing death by dangerous driving was dropped.

The 27-year-old, who lives in a caravan site at Queensferry, Flintshire, also admitted an earlier dangerous driving charge in Manchester.

Judge Niclas Parry, sitting at Mold Crown Court, remanded him in custody to be sentenced, possibly on Friday.

Victim James Loveridge, 38, of Elton, died in the 4am two-vehicle accident on the westbound carriageway of the A55 at Abergwyngregyn, near Talybont in Gwynedd, on March 18 this year. Three others were seriously hurt.

A Mitsubishi Shogun driven by Doherty veered into a lay-by, close to a junction, and struck a parked vehicle.

Mr Loveridge was a front seat passenger in a blue Mitsubishi and died at the scene.

Two other occupants of the Mitsubishi were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Prosecuting barrister Andrew Green said anxious consideration had been given to the case and it had been decided to accept the pleas.

There were no other factors beyond drifting into the lay-by such as excessive speed or alcohol which could be put forward, he said.

Doherty also admitted he was driving while disqualified, without insurance, that he failed to stop and failed to report the accident.

He pleaded guilty to then taking a Landrover Discovery without consent and driving that without insurance.

The Manchester case, transferred to Mold, involved an accident in May last year.

Doherty admitted dangerous driving in various streets in Manchester including Bolton Street, driving while disqualified, no driving licence, no insurance and failing to stop after an accident.

Judge Parry said he had the good sense to plead guilty and he would be given credit in sentencing. But he said they were very serious matters.
