St Mary’s Primary School in Runcorn must improve maths to be classed as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted

INSPECTORS have told a Runcorn school it needs to improve its maths tuition to achieve the top grade for its education.

Schools watchdog Ofsted carried out a snap visit to St Mary’s CE on July 12 and published its findings on Monday.

Inspectors gave the primary a ‘good’ rating overall but said this would have been ‘outstanding’ were its teaching of maths better.

In particular, the three inspectors reported that brighter pupils’ progress slowed during lessons.

The school also achieved ‘outstanding’ for behaviour and safety.

St Mary’s, on Castlefields Avenue South at the border with Halton Village, has 261 pupils from ages three-11.
