Tens of thousands expected at Staffordshire County Show

Jun 2 2010

Crewe Chronicle

THE Staffordshire County Show today (Wednesday) and tomorrow promises to be as successful and enjoyable as last year’s show, which attracted more than 65,000 visitors.

Two days of fun for all the family is guaranteed when the turnstiles open.

Livestock breeders from across the country will be parading more than 1,000 show animals, including 400 cattle, 100 pigs, 500 sheep and 60 goats before judges, in addition to more than 1,500 horses and ponies.

There are no fewer than 10 other shows within the main show on the 110-acre showground in Stafford.

More than 1,200 dog owners will add more animal magic to the agricultural showpiece.

The main ring events include a daredevil motorcycle stunt team and a spectacular display by a canine display team.

In addition, there will still be all the traditional attractions in the main ring, including the grand parade of prize-winning livestock on both days, the parade of fox hounds, the high speed inter-hunt relay, the Young Farmers Floats Competition, show jumping and parades of vintage tractors and machinery.

The country pursuits arena includes farriery competitions, fly-tying and casting, a ferret show, birds of prey and an axe display.

There’s a rabbit, cavy and poultry show and sheep shearing contests and demonstrations.

Visitors can also sample the region’s finest foods in the food hall and cookery theatre.
