Thugs armed with knife raid house in Runcorn

12:01, Mar 13 2013

by Oliver Clay, Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News

A GANG of ‘short’ burglars threatened a victim in his own home with a large knife in Runcorn.

The thugs, who were all no taller than 5ft 6ins, barged their way in after the 62-year-old man answered a knock at the door.

Two of the gang searched the house, then the group fled empty-handed.

Police said the victim suffered a ‘sore back’ due to the raid.

The crooks struck at a house on Thomas Street at 8.35pm on Monday.

Detectives are now hunting the offenders.

Three of them were dressed in black and one was wearing a pale blue jacket.

DC Michelle Thompson said: “We take any incidents of this nature extremely seriously and we are committed to doing everything we can to trace those responsible. We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry in a bid to trace the offenders.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or who was in the area at the time and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or may have seen the offenders fleeing the scene to come forward.”

Cheshire Constabulary said two sightings of one or two marked police BMW X5s patrolling the town centre soon after were part of the subsequent investigation.

Anyone with any information should call Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 829 of March 11.

Information can also be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
