Tribute charity match in memory of tragic Tilston teenager

11:08, Dec 10 2008

Chester Chronicle

A MEMORIAL charity game will take place on Sunday, December 14 as a tribute to outstanding local sportswoman Lucinda Owen who was tragically killed in road accident on the outskirts of Malpas a few months ago.

A junior game will start at 1pm at Yockings Park in Whitchurch followed by a game between the Whitchurch Alport Ladies and a male team in fancy dress.

Lucinda represented Cheshire and Whitchurch at hockey and football.

She was a freescoring member of Whitchurch Alport Ladies FC team, having started playing for the U16s then earning promotion to the senior side.

“Please come along and support a good cause in memory of an extremely popular, talented and committed local sportswoman,” said Ladies team manager Lea Edge (0788 404 1334).

Former Bishop Heber High School pupil Lucinda, 17, from Tilston, was described as a “shining light” by her heartbroken parents.

She had only attended her military passing out parade three days before the accident which killed her.

Lucinda had excelled at sport from an early age and her athleticism and her focussed and determined streak made her a natural fit for a life in the military.

She was relishing starting her career in the army and to acknowledge that, the game is being staged in aid of BLESMA which supports blind and limbless British Forces people.

A family statement issued through police at the time of her death mourned “the most tragic loss of a truly amazing person. She lived for life, people and fun and left her mark on everyone she met.”
