by Oliver Clay, Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News

FIRE crews continue to deal with the aftermath of a serious blaze at a Widnes recycling warehouse.

Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service said it is damping down the ground cooling the edges of the Johnsons Lane site.

Eight fire engines, two aerial platforms, a command unit, one high volume pump, a breathing apparatus vehicle and a welfare unit are at the scene.

Fifteen engines and more than 60 firefighters were fighting the blaze at its peak.

Police cordons are in place.

When the Weekly News visited the site this morning, workers were concerned it could take three days to make the site safe.

They claimed the fire had affected neighbouring businesses also, with some wagons and a sandwich van gutted.

The area is home to several large haulage contractors.
