Who made sandwiches for Wem old lady mugger?

POLICE investigating the alleged robbery of an elderly woman in Wem have renewed an appeal for witnesses.

The woman suffered a dislocated shoulder in the incident, which reportedly happened in the Drawwell Lane area between 9-10am on Sunday, June 1.

A 16-year-old youth has been arrested and is currently on police bail while enquiries continue.

DC Pete Wormley is particularly keen to hear from anyone who might have made someone a packed lunch that morning, which was found discarded in a nearby cemetery and is believed to have belonged to whoever committed the alleged offence.

“A person matching the description of the alleged offender was seen to place a Nisa carrier bag in the cemetery shortly after the incident,” he said.

“This was subsequently recovered by officers following the alleged robbery and found to contain freshly made sandwiches and a packet of salt and vinegar Walkers crisps.

“I’d urge anyone who made someone such a packed lunch on that Sunday morning or the night before, which would be unusual as it was on a weekend, to contact us on 08457 444888.”

DC Wormley added that although it seemed an unusual appeal, whoever made the sandwiches could have important information related to the investigation.

“We believe this carrier bag and its contents belonged to the person who carried out this alleged robbery, so anyone with information is urged to get in touch.”

The alleged robber is described as a young male wearing a hooded top, who made off towards Aston Street.
