Widnes Vikings have pulled off a major coup by signing England international forward Gareth Hock on a season-long loan from Wigan.
The 29-year-old back-rower joins brother-in-law Kevin Brown as the club’s second high profile signing for the new campaign.
Hock, who was on the verge of completing a move to NRL side Parramatta Eels in October before talks broke down, is hoping to be fit for the Vikings’ second or third match of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery six weeks ago.
Denis Betts revealed Hock could extend his stay with the Vikings beyond the end of the campaign.
Widnes will pay a ‘significant, ongoing but undisclosed’ fee for the player, who was named in Super League’s Dream Team last season.
The Wigan-born player is contracted to the Warriors until the end of 2015.
But in a statement released by Wigan on Tuesday morning, Hock was heavily criticised, with the club saying he refused to train with them in order to force a move away.
