Woman threatened at gunpoint at Frodsham bookmakers

11:48, Feb 24 2009

by Ben Coulbeck, Chester Chronicle

A WOMAN working in a betting shop was left shaken after a man threatened her with a handgun in Frodsham last night (Monday).

The female member of staff at Corals Bookmaker, on Main Street, was working alone when the offender demanded she hand over cash takings at 7.45pm.

The gunman, who had been loitering inside the shop for ten minutes before producing the gun, took the three-figure sum of money and fled the shop on foot in the direction of Helsby.

The employee was left scared and shaken by the incident but did not sustain any physical injuries.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to anyone who may have information relating to the armed robbery.

The gunman is described as a white male aged between 30 and 35, 5ft 8 to 5ft 9 tall and of stocky build. He is also described as having a large round face with ginger stubble.

He was dressed in grey tracksuit bottoms, a grey hooded top, grey woolly beanie hat and KSwiss trainers.

He also spoke with a local accent.

Police believe there were other customers in the shop prior to the incident who may have seen the man.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
