Man given ASBO and railway network ban

Apr 29 2005

By Rob Devey, Chester Chronicle

A RAILWAY rogue has been banned from trains and stations for five years.

Terence Maughan, 20, was handed a five year Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) by Chester magistrates banning him from railway property.

Maughan, of no fixed abode, received the ASBO in the wake of a conviction for a public order offence.

He pleaded guilty to acting in a threatening and abusive manner during an incident at Chester Station on September 4 last year.

Mairead Neeson, prosecuting, said officers on duty at the station were called to Platform 12 at 1am. They found Maughan with blood stains on his t-shirt and an ambulance was called.

Ms Neeson said: 'He was very aggressive towards two police officers who were escorting him to the main entrance so ambulance crews could examine him.

'He became more violent, swearing at them several times.

'He was warned to calm down to let ambulance staff treat him but he continued and was arrested.'

Maughan was handcuffed and taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital for treatment, where he was abusive to hospital staff. He was then taken to the police station and charged.

Maughan, who is already serving four and a half years for robbing a taxi driver, was given a £100 fine.

But that was waived on the understanding he would be bound to remain at the court until magistrates retired for the day.

Maughan received the ASBO after magistrates were told of previous convictions. On March 22 last year, he was convicted of a public order offence after acting in an anti-social manner at Liverpool Station.

And on June 7 he was convicted for obtaining property by deception.

The ASBO, which will begin when Maughan is released from prison, means he is also banned from going within 50 metres of Chester Station.
