Teenager dies in fall from crane

A TEENAGER climbed up a crane then fell to his death in an apparent suicide yesterday. The 18-year-old died instantly when he fell from a crane on the Bedford Road, Rock Ferry. Police had been alerted at 1pm by concerned family members that the teenager, who has not been named, was missing. Last night a police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police were informed that a local male was missing. Following an investigation we found his body near the Admiral public house on Bedford Road. "We are not treating his death as suspicious." Story continues ADVERTISEMENT The 18-year-old died on the platform on the Tranmere Royal Terminal slip. Merseyside Fire Service sent two fire engines and a special rescue team with ropes and climbing equipment to the scene. Police arranged for the body to be taken away while Liverpool Coastguard despatched a boat to try and help as it was by the dockside. Wirral coroner Christopher Johnson is expected to open an inquest into the youth's death later this week.
