KIND-HEARTED revellers have raised £1,000 for the memorial fund of a Crewe Alexandra fan who died from cancer in July.
Bernadette Cliffe, Jackie Sumner, Marian Buckley and Maureen Buczek staged a 70s themed night at the Railtrack Suite at the Alexandra Stadium to raise cash for the Andrew Tonks Memorial Fund.
Andrew, 25, from Sandbach was a keen Alex fan and worked as a trained chef in a number of hotels and restaurants across Cheshire.
He also worked as head chef at the Holiday Inn at Mold in North Wales before losing an 18-month battle with lymphoma cancer.
His father, Mike said he was grateful to the 300 people who tuned up to support the event.
He added: 'Our heartfelt thanks go to Jackie, Maureen, Bernie and Marian for organising such a successful event, and to the generous people of Crewe for contributing such a substantial amount of to the fund.
'It was a poignant evening because Andrew really loved music.
'The venue was fitting because Andrew was a keen Crewe supporter. The fund will be used to support a variety of charities.
'The night was the 10th of its kind and the organiser Bernadette Cliffe said its great to be able to help worthy causes.'
