WEAVER Vale MP Mike Hall has pledged not to buy wildlife souvenirs following a poll revealing the alarming scale of Britons buying animal trinkets abroad.
The MP is supporting the International Fund for Animal Welfare's campaign to save endangered species from the trinket trade.
An investigation in South Africa demonstrated the extent of the problem. Researchers discovered a trade in souvenirs including ivory carvings, porcupine quills and sharks' teeth.
Mr Hall said: 'I am pledging not to buy wildlife souvenirs on my holidays and urge others to do the same.
'While some souvenirs may appear harmless, often they belie a bloody trade. Wild animals belong in the wild, not in our homes.'
