MP adds name to anti-hunt protest

Oct 20 2004

Ellesmere Port Pioneer

ELLESMERE Port Labour MP Andrew Miller has signed the Declaration for Democracy and Against Cruelty.

In doing so, he has joined the League Against Cruel Sports, other MPs and members of the public who want to ensure a ban on hunting with dogs.

The declaration criticises those who break or threaten to break the law and backs what supporters describe as 'a popular and democratic law to end a cruel and outdated sport'.

Mr Miller said: 'This declaration relates to the disgraceful attempts by a number of hunters to abuse the democratic process and to bully Parliament into allowing them to chase foxes, deer and hares to exhaustion and then kill them with dogs.

'In the House of Commons I have always voted for a ban on hunting, a position the majority of my constituents support.'
