BIG-HEARTED Winsford carnival queen Rebecca Yearsley is devoting her time to helping her big sister Jenny and other diabetes sufferers in the region.
Rebecca, 15, of Sycamore Avenue, and a pupil of St Nicholas RC High School in Northwich, is using her 'term of office' to raise awareness of the condition.
She wants to collect as much cash as she can to provide her sister, and other Winsford sufferers, with hi-tech personal alarms, which cost about £150 each.
They can be activated by diabetes sufferers if they feel the onset of an attack.
Rebecca said: 'Jenny has what is known as Type One diabetes and I would like to raise as much money to enable my sister and other diabetics sufferers in the Wins-ford area to buy special alarms, which would allow my sister to alert people if she experiences any difficulties.'
Mum Marion said: 'When my daughter goes into hypo, meaning her blood-sugar levels are low, she can't talk or scream, but she could push a button of one of these alarms.
'She has got two babies and it is our worry that it could happen while she is alone.
'Rebecca has already raised more than £100 and she will be fundraising during her year as carnival queen.
'She wanted her charity to raise money to make a difference to people's lives in Winsford, rather than just go to research. I know there are quite a few young people in Winsford with diabetes and it's their lives that are at risk.'
