AN URGENT appeal is going out to anyone eager to help out at Middlewich Roman Festival.
About 100 volunteers are needed to provide assistance and support during the weekend of September 26 and 27.
Some people have already come forward, but more are needed.
Liz Mitchell, from Congleton borough's Council for Voluntary Services, said: 'I'm sure there are lots of people out there who could spare an hour or two to lend a hand.
'It's a great way to gain experience of managing an event, and the skills that you acquire are a great addition to any CV if you are looking for a new job.' Volunteers are needed for a range of tasks such as stewarding, guiding visitors at the base camp and running a park-and-ride scheme.
A rota system will ensure that people work for short periods, take breaks and have time to enjoy the weekend.
The main festival site is at Harbutt's Field, and the programme of events will include a Roman parade, battle re-enactments by the Ermine Street Guard, a chariot race, balloon race, virtual-reality film showings of Roman Middlewich and trips on a Roman galley.
There will also be Roman glass-making, face-painting, metal detectors, Roman finds, mosaic workshops, Roman cookery, clay workshops, Roman pot-throwing, Roman coin-making, salt-making, refreshments and a pig roast.
Some 10,000 people are expected to attend during the weekend.

Volunteers need to be aged 18 or over. People under 18 can still volunteer, but must be accompanied by a parent.
All helpers will be invited to attend a briefing meeting on Friday, September 18, at 6pm, at a venue to be confirmed.
