Closure will be 'bridge too far'

Nov 26 2003

Northwich Chronicle

THE closure of a major route into Northwich will make it 'almost impossible' to get into the town.

That's the view of Acton Bridge councillor Steve Pardoe, who wants to see a temporary bridge built to ease the traffic congestion in the new year when Hayhurst Swing Bridge is closed eight months for repair work.

Northwich Town Council has also called for Marbury Lane to be reopened to ease the problems.

Dave Thomas, from Cheshire County Council, said: 'With regards to a temporary bridge, it is impossible to get one in there because you have to have roads leading up to the bridge and there is nowhere to put them in.

'The reopening of Marbury Lane is also not an option. If it was then we would consider it. It is a private road that runs through the park.'
