Abuse victims to share experiences

Jul 4 2007

The Chronicle

WOMEN who have suffered domestic abuse will tell their stories to police officers during a meeting in Winsford on Monday.

Out of the Shadows - From Victim to Survivor is a one-off event set up at the request of Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan.

It will see abuse survivors stepping under the spotlight and sharing their experiences with an audience of Cheshire officers.

Asst Chief Con Shewan said: 'I've attended many different domestic violence seminars and many of them have involved victims talking about their experiences.

'In many cases, I have been comforted by the fact that many victims have received lots of support and guidance from the police. Sadly, I've also heard of cases whereby victims have been left with very negative opinions about the police.'

The meeting will be held at Cheshire police's headquarters on Oakmere Road.
