However, Jeff Metcalf, of North-wich's the Thatched Tavern, said: 'The ban is totally wrong, it should have been at the landlord's discretion.'
Terry Phillips, of the Wheatsheaf Inn, Weaverham, agreed.
'I don't agree with policing a law that I didn't want,' he said.
Matthew Webster, of the Barn Owl, Northwich, said: 'My main concern is not about the takings but by encouraging people to smoke outdoors, neighbours may complain.'
Natalie Hale, manager of the Prince's Feathers, Winsford, said: 'The ban has not affected business. We have catered for smoking customers with an awning in the beer garden and we have had no problems so far.'
Linda Green, an environmental health spokeswoman for Vale Royal council, said: 'This is simply a measure limiting the number of places in which people can smoke. We have been encouraging pubs to gradually limit the number of places over the past few months.'
