Schools ask for merger delay

THE governing bodies of two Winsford primary schools have agreed in principle to an amalgamation - but they want it delayed by a year. Leaf Lane Infant and Wharton CE Junior schools will ask council bosses to postpone the merger until September 2009 to allow an extension to the Wharton facility to be built. Education chiefs proposed a 420-place primary school by closing the two existing schools as part of Cheshire County Council's Transforming Learning Communities (TLC) review.
