My bullying hell

Sep 18 2003

By Adrian Short Widnes Weekly News

AN EPILEPTIC schoolboy is to become the second pupil at Bankfield High to undergo a videotaped police interview following bullying allegations.

Simon Terry and his mother Mandy

Simon Terry, 14, of Hale Road, Widnes, was walking home from school on Monday, September 8, when he was allegedly set upon by another pupil who punched him in the face leaving him with a burst lip and bruised cheekbone.

But two teachers spotted the incident, intervened and drove Simon back home to safety.

His mum Mandy said she would also be informing the police that a death threat was also made against her son during the incident. She said she was particularly concerned as Simon had last year considered suicide in a bid to end the bullying.

The alleged attack happened in the first week that Simon had started making his school journey on foot after he was warned by medics not to ride his bike because of the risks linked to his epilepsy.

She said that when he used to travel by bus he was constantly picked on and is now in despair as the bike was his only safe method of transport.

She said that her son has suffered bullying from various gangs of children since starting at the school - the bullying has included library books being stuffed into urinals and his packed lunch being flushed down the toilet.
