Gymnastics: Beth ready to go it alone

Sep 7 2007

Chester Chronicle

HAVING starred for the Great Britain team earlier this week, Beth Tweddle is ready to go for solo success at the World Championships in Stuttgart.

The 22-year-old from Bunbury has qualified in fourth place for today's women's all-around final. She will also take part in tomorrow's uneven bars final - defending the world title she won last year - and the floor final on Sunday.

Beth is turning her attention to individual glory after helping the British team reach the final of the World Championships for the first time on Sunday when

they qualified sixth - which was also good enough to book their place at next year's Beijing Olympics. She was rested for Wednesday's final so she could focus on her individual exploits and without her the British team finished seventh.

Beth said: 'I have done my job for the team and now I am focused on my individual chances.

'I would love a medal. This is the third year I have qualified fourth for the all-around so I will wait and see.'
