England giant Herriman gives hopefuls net gain

Jan 4 2007

Runcorn Weekly News

YOUNG basketball players are walking tall after a coaching clinic with a giant of the English game.

National team captain Delme Herriman has a leading role in the sport's development in his native Halton.

The coaching camps at King-sway Leisure Centre compliment the Halton Basketball Club - run at the same venue by Herriman, the 6ft 7in star of last year's Commonwealth Games.

'But you don't have to be in the club to go to a camp,' explained Halton sports development officer, Jane Rhodes.

Herriman, accompanied by fellow Manchester Magic play-ers and also Paul Eager, a PE teacher in Warrington, held two different age-group sessions.

The afternoon class for 11 to 16-year-olds proved particularly popular.

Another camp is planned for the half-term school holidays in February.
