Oarsome effort results in medals

TWO Frodsham rowers, Val Edwards and Rosa Atkinson, won silver and bronze medals respectively at the largest indoor sporting event in the country.

Val, 46, and 13-year-old Rosa were among more than 2,200 competitors who raced at the British Indoor Rowing Championship at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

A 7,000-strong audience was there to watch as Val, racing on a Concept2 indoor rower, clocked seven minutes and 28.7 seconds 2,000m to earn the silver medal in the women's 45-49 heavyweight category.

Rosa took home the bronze medal for her distance of 1,068m in four minutes in the women's junior 14 category.

More than 900 schoolchildren raced at the event in the junior and team events while in the 90+ age category, 96-year-old John Hodgson from Leeds took home the gold medal!
