Fords steal the show with twin performance

Apr 28 2004

Northwich Chronicle

ROWING: TWINS Edward and John Ford grabbed glory for the North West and The Grange School at the Inter Regional Regatta at Nottingham on Sunday.

More than 700 of the best performing 14 to 16-year-olds in the country took part in the event. The Fords were selected to race in double sculls and Edward also in the single scull.

They soon took control of their heat and made it through to the final with ease.

Edward then had to jump straight out of that boat and into his single and do it all over again. He finished a comfortable third in his heat.

In the final, the double performed superbly, again taking control of the race from the start, going on to take the gold medal for the North West.

Within 45 minutes, Edward was back at the start again and despite his previous effort and the hot weather, he managed to lead the field during the first part of the race. But, eventually, his previous exertions caught up with him and he had to settle for a bronze, just a few seconds behind the winner.

Deepika Reddy and Jenny Johnson were in a composite four that missed out on a place in the J16s A race final, but they went on to win the B event comfortably.
