Ten-up trophy success

ROWING: NORTHWICH Rowing Club won the Victor Ludorum Trophy at Burton regatta after returning 10 winners at the two-day event.

Saturday races were over 1,000m of the River Trent and Northwich winners were the Men's Senior III eight of Sam Cooper, Neil McKay, Tom Green, Mike Rafferty, Stuart Jones, Chris Lyons, Simon Bannister, Scott Alder and cox Lizzy Bone, who also steered the Senior IV eight of Alder, Green, Simon Bannister, Neil McKay, Chris Lyons, Andy Coniffe, Kristian Ormund, Ronan Lomas to victory; Alison Healey, Kerry Briggs, Lynzi Evans, Melanie Wakefield and cox Jonty Moore in the women's Senior IV fours event, while Nicola Plant and Victoria Lindholt were victorious in their women's junior double scull. The pair were then joined by Anna Ward and Sarah Peck to win in the Junior 16 quad event.

Sunday winners were the Senior II eight of Doug Pickup, Green, Mike Rafferty, Stuart Jones, Sam Cooper, Pete Wood, Alder, Ben Jones and cox Bone, and the Senior II coxed four of Doug Pickup, Green, Rafferty, Cooper and cox Helen Ferber; double scullers Wood and Alder at Senior III level; Senior IV four of Alison Heley, Kerry Briggs, Lynzi Evans, Melanie Wakefield and cox Moore. Also Northwich's youngest members, Jodie Frazer and Sarah Peck, won the junior 13 double sculls.

Northwich crews are aiming for medals at the National Championships at Nottingham at the weekend.
