ROWING: ROYAL Chester coach Duncan Little is the latest winner of Chester rowing's Lowe Blade.
The trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding personality in the sport in the city and commemorates the life and service of Frank Lowe, a former Alderman of the Goldsmiths' Company, Freeman of the city and dedicated riverman.
The rowing blade was hand-wrought from sterling silver ingots melted down from silver shot and rowing trophies
won by the Lowe family at the turn of the century. The blade was assayed, hallmarked and struck with the Chester Mark of Origin by the Goldsmiths' Company.
Little was presented with the trophy by Grahame Jones, Alderman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.
The award recognised his dedication and enthusiasm, and contribution to the success of junior rowing at Royal Chester Rowing Club.
In six seasons as director of junior rowing, crews under his guidance have won more than 450 trophies with individuals being selected to senior national squads.
Little grew through the club starting as a schoolboy cox, moving to coxing senior crews in international events, coaching and finally directing the junior programme which delivers the Amateur Rowing Association's Project Oarsome, drawing talent from schools.
