ROWING: The ever-expanding medal collection of Grosvenor Rowing Club's veteran squad was boosted when the crew clinched victory at the latest head race of the season.

Beating off competition from crews from across the North of England, the Veteran C Eight recorded the fastest time for its category at the Head of Float, hosted by Liverpool Victoria Rowing Club.

The eight, coached by Chris Hudson and coxed by Sarah Armstrong, comprised Tony Churchill, Ad Gideonse, Ian Tweedie, Dave Naylor, Karen Hough, Jeremy Lush, Colin Morris and Paul Larby. They completed two separate legs of the West Float in Birkenhead, each approximately 1,400m in length.

The 14th win of the season for Grosvenor Rowing Club came just a fortnight after four of the veterans won at the Agecroft Small Boats Head in Manchester. Karen is also a member of the world-beating Grosvenor veteran crew which clinched victory at the World Masters Championships in Strathclyde in September.

This success and others this year were toasted at the Grosvenor Rowing Club's Christmas Sherry Party on Sunday, at the club's boathouse on the Groves, Chester. nThe men's rowing team from the University of Chester also took part in the Head of Float event, hosted by Liverpool Victoria.

In the novice category, Chester came in with an honourable fourth out of six, fending off the likes of Trafford and Liverpool University.
