KICKBOXING: FORMER CISKA super featherweight world title holder Dave Newbrook stole the limelight with a sensational performance at the Lord of the Rings showcase at Chester Racecourse.

The chief instructor at Ellesmere Port Thai Boxing Club overwhelmed English middleweight champion Denton Joseph with a flawless display of kick boxing that saw him claim victory in the third round.

The 28-year-old martial arts expert, who runs the Dave New-brook Thai Boxing Academy at West Cheshire College and the EPIC in Ellesmere Port, was delighted with his win against an opponent who was a stone-anda-half heavier.

He said: 'Everything went to plan. I was in control from start to finish and was pleased with how I did.

'I had food poisoning last Tuesday so was feeling a bit weak all week.

'It affected me, but I still did the job quite easily. Come the night I just took him apart.'

Following his world title success at the age of 22, Newbrook spent five years away from the sport before making a surprise return to the ring in 2004.

The Lord of the Rings contest was his fifth since his comeback and his sixth fight is scheduled to take place in April.

Prior to this he plans to stage an amateur show for some of the area's up-and-coming fighters.

Anyone interested in joining Dave Newbrook's kickboxing academy can contact him on 07929 330954.
