KICKBOXING: FORMER CISKA super featherweight world title holder Dave Newbrook stole the limelight with a sensational performance at the Lord of the Rings showcase at Chester Racecourse. The chief instructor at Ellesmere Port Thai Boxing Club overwhelmed English middleweight champion Denton Joseph with a flawless display of kick boxing that saw him claim victory in the third round. The 28-year-old martial arts expert, who runs the Dave New-brook Thai Boxing Academy at West Cheshire College and the EPIC in Ellesmere Port, was delighted with his win against an opponent who was a stone-anda-half heavier. He said: 'Everything went to plan. I was in control from start to finish and was pleased with how I did. 'I had food poisoning last Tuesday so was feeling a bit weak all week. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT 'It affected me, but I still did the job quite easily. Come the night I just took him apart.' Following his world title success at the age of 22, Newbrook spent five years away from the sport before making a surprise return to the ring in 2004. The Lord of the Rings contest was his fifth since his comeback and his sixth fight is scheduled to take place in April.
